In a fast paced world ruled by the digital media, where people are trained to seek and expect instant gratification, it’s nice to be reminded of the traditional route that romance once took. 500 Days Of Summer is a romantic movie that portrays the developing relationship between Tom, a hopelessly romantic greeting card writer, and Summer, his girlfriend.
After Summer abruptly ends their once blooming relationship, Tom seeks to explore the causes of their doomed relationship. Exploring the 500 days that spanned their relationship, Tom traces the events that unfolded, from the initial meeting, through the expected ups and downs, to the termination of their mutual bond.
Viewers will appreciate the natural development of love between the characters, which is a clear throwback to the more traditional dating rituals that our parents observed. Nostalgia for a world that was slower paced, and allowed the more natural development of interpersonal relationships, will yearn in the hearts of people watching this compelling film.
You will remember, or at least be acquainted with, a time when relationships developed outside of the realm of computers. An interesting course of the plot takes Tom in a journey of introspection. His self discovery reminds Tom of what his true passions are. How many of us go through life without connecting with our inner passions?
This movie will serve as a reminder to people, that while it’s import to pursue a livelihood, and to seek the luxuries of life, often we overlook our true desires in the pursuit of this golden calf.
Like all true love, it must come from the heart, not be sold to use by Madison Avenue’s creative artists. How many of us walk through life pursuing the dreams that are instilled into us by clever advertising agencies? It’s nice to see Tom rediscover his inner passions while he can still act on them.
