Information products can be the bootstrapping entrepreneur’s dream. The start-up costs range from nothing to a few hundred dollars. The only big cost is your time. If you have a particular talent or skill-set that you have more than a surface level knowledge of, then you can create a lucrative info-product.
Here are a few tips for creating your own information product that can bring you buckets of cash:
1. Is the audience big enough to bring you tons of money? You do want to market to a niche audience, but the size of the audience must be big enough to generate a lot of sales.
2. Does the audience want what you have to sell? You can’t create a product where there is no market for it, or you are wasting your time. Do your research and find out.
3. Information products come in many forms. You can create hard copies or digital. You can have DVDs, transcripts, CDs, ebooks, and other training materials.
4. Courses demand higher prices that just single ebooks. Figure out how you can turn your product into a course. If you have only written an ebook, read it into a digital recorded and create and audio file as well. Video tape yourself showing the user how to make the product and then package it all together. If you just create a single book, there is a price ceiling in people’s heads for that. Books generally sell for $ 20 or less. You will have a harder time asking for hundreds unless you add value like you can with a course.
5. If there is already something out there like the course you are trying to make, buy it and see how it gets delivered, not all of the steps you have to go through to get it, look at the sales letter, and finally the content and see how you can improve upon it. Then use your marketing campaign to highlight the difference, between what yours can do compared to the competition. People get lazy and rarely will they change an established product.
