Time! The New Currency!

Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin will be spent. Be careful that you don’t let other people spend it for you ~ John Dryden

Let’s face it – time is the new currency. Before I spend time and energy on something, I have to ask myself, how much physical and emotional currency will I spend doing this? This helps me avoid activities that may not be in my best interest because the “cost” is just too high.

For example, you bring something home from the grocery without checking the date and find that it is expired. The cost was $ 3.99. While I’m irritated that the store is selling out-dated items, the emotional and physical currency that it would take for me to go back and return that item is just too great. So, I throw it away and move on with my day never returning to the irritation I felt previously.

Conversely, I was faced with a situation where I was erroneously charged $ 233.00 on my credit card for something I did not purchase nor authorize. It was worth the time and effort that I spent to get that charge reversed.

Relating to your career, what projects will you focus on and what will you delegate? What is the very best use of your time and expertise? Think of your time in currency. What will you “spend today?” Will it be productive and further your personal and career goals or simply a means to an end?

Planning each day by purposely deciding what you will achieve will go a long way in not only feeling fulfilled, but in keeping you from simply being a hamster on the wheel. Often I hear people say that if they don’t work evenings and weekends, they won’t get everything done. What is everything? Control your life’s dreams and goals or someone else will!

Decide on purposeful planned action. You are the artist of your life. Create something wonderful!
