Write What You Know!

If you’re trying article marketing with your websites, then you know sitting in front of the computer staring at a blank screen is one of the most difficult tasks you’ll have to face. Where do you start? And, more importantly, what do you write your articles about?

Now, I’ve read dozens of eBooks, websites, and forums about article marketing, and everyone has different advice. One will advise you to write about the subject of the website that you want to promote, while another will tell you to write about something else entirely (just be sure to put your two links in your bio), while still another tells you to rewrite articles that you find offline. While some of these things may work for some, and some may not work for others, none will work for everyone. And, quite honestly, the search engines are getting very, very smart. If you’re rewriting other people’s work, sooner or later, your work will be “slapped” by one of them as duplicate material. Others will pick up on the fact that the links in your bio are about an entirely different subject, and may penalize your sites for not so great back links. Either way, taking the easy way out will catch up with you, sooner or later.

Based on what I have seen, read, and experienced online, your best bet at writing successful articles is, quite simply, write about what you know! You’ll never come across as an “expert” contributor in any article if you don’t know the facts behind your words. Usually, if you write about what you know, and you’ve built your websites around things that you already know about, as well, the two will go hand in hand, complementing both your site and your article, and you won’t find yourself staring at that blank screen for long.

If that’s not the case, or if you need to write about something you’re not entirely comfortable with your knowledge about, then do your homework! Research it online, go to the library, do whatever it takes to learn enough that you become comfortable with your subject, and then sit down to write the article. You’ll stand a much better chance at success than trying any of the shortcuts that other marketers are using, and your article will get the attention (and the back links) that you deserve!
