Fix my slow PC! This is a problem that is run into almost daily at any computer shop. The funny thing is that computer shops perform four simple tasks right away when someone has a slow running PC. These tasks take a matter of minutes and usually speed up the computer by 75% or more. They then end up charging hundreds of dollars to the happy client who doesn’t know any better.
Odds are you have a fairly new computer, but it is just running a bit slower with each passing day. Am I right? The good thing is, it’s normal and you can easily do something about it yourself for WAY less than what you will be charged at a computer shop, and in some cases for free.
Three of them you can do yourself from home with some fairly easy to find software, and one of them you can do with the software that is already on your computer.
Fix my slow PC – Step 1
Open up your start bar and type in “disk defragmenter.” This will open up the windows disk defragmenter. Files become fragmented over time and every time you try to access something your hard disk takes longer and longer to do it. This will get them in a linear order and will speed up access time. Simply click “Defragment now” when it opens up and run the defragmenting process on everything.
Fix my slow PC – Steps 2, 3 and 4
The next things that slow your computer down that are easily fix are too many startup entries, hundreds of junk files, and corrupted registry entries. Unfortunately there is no pre-installed way to address all of these issues at once on windows computers, and no way at all to address the last two without manually deleting and modifying files, a task that I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.
Luckily there are some bright individuals out there who have recognized this problem and have created specialized software that addresses all three of these concerns at once. Rather than taking your computer to a shop to remedy these issues and spending hundreds of unnecessary hard earned dollars, all you need to do is locate the necessary software to scan your computer. It may be the case that you don’t need to fix anything, but in most cases you do.
If you find yourself asking fix my slow pc, make sure you do something about it sooner rather than later. You may be buying an expensive new computer a lot sooner than you thought otherwise.
You can literally save yourself hundreds of dollars by preventing the need to take your computer to a repair shop, and can even save yourself thousands by preventing the need for a new computer.
