Entrepreneurs are a fairly rare breed of people, but not so rare that it is impossible to be one. There are a few mandatory personality traits that you must possess, however. If you do not possess these traits, you can still have business success, but the road ahead will be much harder.
Here are the 5 traits:
1. The ability to work independently and to make your own decisions. If you are the kind of person that needs others to help you decide on a topic, then entrepreneurship is not for you. You are not expected to know everything, but when it comes down to the end, your are the business owner, and you will need to be able to work without always getting the opinions of others first. Sometimes you have to trust your gut instinct to make quick decisions.
2. You have to be able to delegate tasks and understand that you cannot do everything yourself. Delegation is key to getting things done in the world of small business. It does not mean you have to have employees, but you need to learn to outsource mundane tasks that are taking up your time. The idea of owning a business is not to buy yourself a new day job, but to have the business work for you.
3. You have to be a creative problem solver. As an entrepreneur you will run into hundreds of issues and roadblocks. There will be more than one way around each one, and it will be your job to solve the problems or know where to go for the answers.
4. You have to be self-motivated and have a can-do attitude. If you are the kind of person that gives up easily at the first sign of adversity, then you are going to have a hard time making it in business. Your motivation needs to come from within, because there may not be much of a cheer-leading section when you are first starting out.
5. You have to have an idea that people are interested in. You cannot create a market. You need to find out what your target market wants and provide the perfect solution. If you create a new market where you have to convince your audience that they need your product, you are setting yourself up to fail.
