Be a cheerful giver and see how your blessings will flow easily

“Give and it shall be given unto you: good measures, pressed down and shaken together, and running over shall men give into your bosom. For with the measure that ye used the same shall be measured to you again”-Luke 6:38.

Sam, 18 went for teenagers camping in Amherst, Colorado. He met a set of 12 (all within the age range 15-17) friends in the same camp region and they were all together. He came to the campground with about $ 500. But unfortunately, 8 out of his 12 friends had no money on them yet, claiming their Camp guardians were with theirs and they do not know when they can get it back, because it was speculated that all they need would be provided. Well! Sam did not mind, even though the reason given sounds flimsy, he still shared his money with the 8 of them through out the 5-day period in camp.

A day to the end of the camping program, They did some exercises which tore his pair trainers- shoe wear and by then his money was not enough to buy one. Later that same day in the evening; his friends left him and came back in the night. Each of his 8 friends gave him more than $ 120 each. He was refusing, claiming it wasn’t necessary but he insisted. Before the grand finale of the event the next day, he bought a new set of trainers and still had about $ 750 to go home with. He came to the Camping ground with $ 500 and left with $ 750. He did not do any business, nor did he invest it somewhere, just mere giving resulting to such a profit.

Giving is an act commanded by God in the Scriptures, it is an action with blessings attached to it. In order for anyone to be a receiver, he/she must first be a giver. In Luke 6:38, it was clearly stated, “Give and it shall be given unto you”, in order words, if you do not give, it will not be given unto you. This was and is still is a command from Jesus, it was not just an advice, He commanded it and every command issued comes with a reward when obeyed and with a penalty when many believers have not yet realized and most unbelievers prosper simply because they apply this principle. Christians ought not to be stingy or selfish because it limits. But there must be a difference in giving between a Christian and non-Christian, a Christian should give whole-hearted and simply without expecting anything in return and he should not be hypocritical like the Pharisees in giving. Every one of us should imbibe the attribute of giving. Giving is not limited to only finances or material things; it could be advice, love and prayers and so on.

The Bible made us to understand through Jesus’ saying in Matthew 6 hat when we Christians give, we should not go about sounding it aloud that we have given else we will only receive the praises and reward of men; also he should learn to give in simplicity. Roman 12:8 “He that giveth let him do it with simplicity”. It may interest you to know that God loves a cheerful giver and He blesses a cheerful giver be it a Christian or a non-Christian. A Cheerful giver implied giving for nothing in return. Not because the Bible says give and it shall be given back unto you in full measures, does not mean you will turn giving into a “spiritual venture”. Let’s be cheerful givers and see how God’s blessing would spread amongst us.
