“Baloney” they say! Most of us have encountered the situation where a bright colleague, associate or acquaintance has shot down the efforts of some earnest small business owner who has gathered the courage to follow their intuition with regards to one thing or another. But don’t be put off! This is not meant as a criticism but often, further examination of that outrage will reveal a person consumed by ego who, unable to recognize their own natural capacities for intuition and instinct, struggles with allowing other people to have and enjoy it in droves!
When we find ourselves on or headed towards a conscious path in our small business, it helps if we can get clear on this. It is not really possible to navigate both an intuitive and a non-intuitive path while at the same time being true to ourselves. It is the nature of human experience that each of us is different and unique, equals on our path. As bewildering as it is to some of us who consciously employ intuition and instinct as part of our daily lives and business practice to comprehend the perspective of those who scoff, we need to be mindful that they are where they are in life as we are where we are. That is, the human unfolding is such a wonderful, magical road through which we discover our inner riches. If we treasure our personal unfolding, rather than resist the resistance of others, it is easier to use their resistance as a cue to renew our commitment to ourselves.
And that, more and more is what intelligent, intuitive and progressive small business owners are doing. We instinctively recognize and accept as part of our birthright the ability to create a life’s work that will not only provide us with a platform to explore our own humanity but also enable us to offer a priceless service to the world. For some people this might take the form of different projects over the course of a lifetime and for others perhaps one main one. But there is one thing that we share; we have an inherent understanding that our visions can only be attained if we follow that built-in navigation system that is wired to help us succeed.
So, what if we’ve covered all our bases – written up our business plans, consulted with our professionals; lawyers, accountants etc, implemented our various development, marketing and sales strategies, given our business that ‘something extra’ called intuition and find ourselves the subject of the “hard nosed” businessman’s wrath?
We accept that ours is a different reality but no less real or significant than that of the cynic. We can think of how empowering it is to be able to take an honest look at ourselves and our businesses in order to gain a real understanding of where we might be going off track and use this information to grow and create positive and lasting change. If we can allow ourselves to have this valuable advantage and find that it makes us more fulfilled and better able to give of our best – that is a gift. It is a gift to ourselves, our businesses and it raises the quality of the offering we give to those we serve. And with this realization comes the understanding that no one is entitled to determine or censor the extent or appropriateness of the best we have to give.
