The Basics of Twitter Marketing

Twitter, a web start up that has grown more than any other site in the last year, is increasingly becoming a major player in the business marketing world. Whether you are an internet startup, major corporation, or mom and pop shop on your local street corner, Twitter can be used, often quite lucratively, to market and find new customers. Below are the basics on how to begin marketing your company or product on Twitter.

Create an account:
Make sure you use a user name which will relate to your business. The business name would be best. Upload both a background and image that are both catchy, and have your business logo within them. Make sure if you have a website you put a link within your profile description so that anyone who goes to your Twitter page can quickly access your site.

Get Followers:
There are a couple ways to get followers. One is just to advertise on your own website or at your store that you will offer something to those who follow you. Whether it is a discount, or valuable information, you need something to stand out. The second, and often more effective way to gain followers, is to find other Twitter accounts within your niche, and follow all the people who are following them. About 30% will usually follow you back. Do this on a weekly basis, and you will see your follower number grow quite rapidly.

Tweet Your Messages:
Once you have a large number of followers, you can begin tweeting to them. If you have a website with a special on a product or service, or wrote a recent blog post that you think your followers may be interested in, tweet about it. Remember to have value in your tweets. People will unfollow you just as fast as they followed you if you simply spam links over and over again.

With the proper strategy, Twitter can be one of the best free marketing services out there.
