The Bombay Stock Exchange, interpreted as BSE India is a major contributor of the Indian capital market. No one and not even the founders ever imagined that this oldest exchange in Asia would achieve such numerous milestones so as to carve a niche in the world map. The genesis of the BSE India is rooted to the 1850s, when four Gujarati and one Parsi stockbroker would gather under banyan trees in front of Mumbai’s Town Hall. Gradually more brokers joined and the meeting place changed occasionally; permanent meeting started taking place at Dalal Street in 1874 and it was in the year 1875 that it took the shape of an organization under the indentation of ‘The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association’. And then there has been no looking back! The BSE sensex is the indicator of the performance of the companies listed in BSE India.

The National Stock Exchange of India or NSE India has also been instrumental towards further growth of the Indian capital market. Promoted by leading financial institutions at the behest of the Government of India, this bourse has also several milestones to its credit. It was founded in 1992 as a tax-paying company and later recognized as a stock exchange in1993.
