Top 3 Marketing Mistakes Made by Entrepreneurs

Marketing to your customers is the single most important task for any entrepreneur. It doesn’t matter how good your product or service is or how enticing your sales materials. If you aren’t reaching out to your niche and your potential customers, then they will never know about you or remember you. Read about the top 3 mistakes that most people make when marketing.

But there is also effective ways to market to your customers and ineffective ways. Don’t make these same mistakes yourself.

Inconsistent marketing. The most effective marketing strategy is one that is consistent. Once you find a strategy that works, you should keep sticking with that strategy on a regular basis as long as that strategy continues to work. I find that when I stick with a certain strategy on a regular basis, I get more out of that tactic than when I am not consistent with it. For example, I submit articles online and receive traffic from my articles. I find that if I submit articles on a regular basis each month, the traffic on my articles and clicks to my website remain consistent. The traffic on my old articles tends to remain fairly consistent, as well. If I skip writing articles for a couple of months, the traffic to my current articles and clicks to my website diminishes drastically. I notice that when I write a new article, my article is put on the home page of the website. People must be clicking on my profile from the article they are reading to view my past articles.
Continuously finding new customers, but ignoring existing ones. Your best customer is the one you already sold to before. You know they are interested in what you have to offer and they know your quality. It is much easier to sell to someone who has bought from you in the past than it is to sell to someone new. Many entrepreneurs spend a considerable amount of time selling and marketing to new potential customers. This is great, but it’s important to spend as much time marketing to your existing customers. Get them to purchase again, or offer something new.
Not tracking your results. Many people feel that tracking their marketing results is too complicated or to time-consuming, but it is such an important piece of marketing. If you track your results of marketing campaigns, then you learn which strategies are working. Let’s say you spend 5 hours each week on one marketing strategy and one hour each week on a second strategy. Let’s say the first strategy was pulling in 5% of your new customers and the second strategy was pulling in 20% of your new customers? Would you still continue with the first strategy? Your time might be better spent increasing your efforts on the second strategy.

There are many ways to market a business, but if you keep these three mistakes in mind when you are marketing your business, you will find your efforts to be more effective. After all, what is the point of a marketing strategy if it doesn’t seem to be bringing in any customers and sales?
